Special General Meeting - Thursday 22nd October 2009 at 7.30pm

A Special General Meeting of
North Ayrshire Sports Council
was held on
Thursday 22nd October 2009 at 7.30pm
Argyle Centre, Campbell Avenue, Saltcoats.

The Executive Committee of North Ayrshire Sports Council had called this Special General Meeting for one item of Business:
For Members to receive, consider and vote on the recommendations of the Executive Committee and related amendments of the Constitution. All affiliated clubs and individual members had been invited by letter to attend, due notice having been given.

Chairman Jim McCabe welcomed the 18 members present and outlined the background to the recommendations which the Executive Committee had made. i.e. to rename North Ayrshire Sports Council as “Sport North Ayrshire” and redraft the Constitution to facilitate the name change and status of the Sports Council. The final approved draft of the revised Constitution had been available on this website for two weeks prior to the meeting. Printed copies were available. The final approved draft of the constitution was read out to the meeting.

The Chairman asked the members present if they had any questions. There were none. He then proposed that the meeting accept the new Constitution and invited the meeting to vote. The meeting voted unanimously to accept the change of name and the new Constitution.

The Chairman thanked everyone for their attendance and closed the meeting at 7.48pm.

British Automatic Ball Trap Championship comes to North Ayrshire.

SportNorthAyrshire members, North Ayrshire Shooting Ground, will be hosting the British Automatic Ball Trap Championship on the 5th and 6th of June 2010.

Tom Young of North Ayrshire Shooting Ground writes:

This is the first time the major competition has come to Ayrshire and will attract competitors from all over the UK, Ireland and Isle of Man. The competition is based on shooting 100 clay targets per day.

The targets are launched from the trap which is 15 meters in front of the shooters, the targets travel 76 meters at a speed of 56 mph with the traps angling from left to right and also up and down, making this one of the harder clay target disciplines.

Hunterston A Comes to the Rescue of Our Sports Council

After 23 years of council funding, the future of North Ayrshire Sports Council looked very bleak when NAC announced they would no longer be in a position to grant fund the organisation.

In a bid to staging the 20 to 30 sporting events due to be held in 2009 and 2010 the Sports Council’s Treasurer approached Hunterston A Site for help. The resulting generous support means that all the planned sporting events will continue this year including Junior and Senior Bowling, Fly and Sea Fishing, Shooting, Hockey, Karate to mention a few. Plans for 2010’s events can also be made. A delighted Treasurer said, “Thanks to Magnox North, a huge number of people, young and not so young will be able to take part in our sporting activities.” He continued, “Hunterston A Site will be assisting in supporting the events by providing funding which allows the hiring of facilities and provision of memento trophies for the winners.”

Thanks to Hunterston A and Magnox North, North Ayrshire Sports Council is now able to continue its principal aim in promoting and developing interest and participation in Sport for ALL people in our local area.

2010 Membership Fees

Memberships for 2010 — still held at £10 per club and £2 for an individual — are now due!

Cunningham Cup 2009

On a trying day at Middleton Fishery the 2009 Cunninghame Cup was held. The number of entrants was slightly down on last year but attracted a few new faces to the Event. Although the fish played hard to get there were some lovely specimens on show at the weigh-in. The Event was nearly a clean sweep for the McClymont family from Saltcoats. Father Bud and his twin sons Bryan and Kenny took the top three places with Bryan holding onto the heaviest fish until the last competitor weighed in and he was beaten by Paul Webster by three ounces.
